Vibrating glove for visually impaired

The Sonar and GPS glove is a project that involves the design of a wrist mounted, distance sensing, haptic feedback device for the visually impaired.Ping sensors send out a pulse, and listen for a pulse to return. If the object is close, the motors begin to vibrate. The sensors are implemented onto the back of the hand, making it easier to move and detect objects at various heights. The GPS module can acquire the location of the user. This can be developed for; location logging and emergency situations as a panic button to send the location of the user to a contact. This was achieved by utilising the Arduino microcontroller..

Projects

As part of their final year, students complete an individual project which makes use of the skills and principles which they have learnt on the programme. Here is a selection – the project  descriptions are written by the students themselves.

Tube Guitar Amp

For my third year project I built a tube guitar amplifier. The model I decided to build was the P1-eXtreme from ax84. com.It is an evolution of the original P1 design and pushes the original design to a higher output. It does this by increasing the preamp gain, along with an octal power tube running at higher rail voltages for a bigger sound. One of the great features is the way the gain varies between clean to full on Marshall-style crunch. It can be used with most octal power tubes including the KT88 and 6550 for a fatter tone, adjusting the bias resistor and output load impedance accommodates this. Bigger tubes can provide gig ready volume levels..

Fender Bassman F56A Guitar amp â€‹

The Fender Bassman F56A Guitar amp originates from 1959. Many in the industry claim it to be one of the best sounding guitar amplifiers ever built. It is a two channel 50 Watt amp including a normal channel, a bright channel and a passive tone stack. It is a class AB (push pull) amplifier utilising three 12AX7 valves in the pre-amp section, two 6L6 GC power valves and one GZ34 rectifier valve. The amp was hand built from a schematic found online. It was a very challenging project where I developed valuable circuit building, testing and fault finding skills. This project along with my training in IADT has provided me with proficient skills in building, testing and repairing electronic circuits.
